Is homosexual activity legal in Pakistan?
No, homosexual activity is illegal in Pakistan. Under Article 377 of the Pakistan Penal Code of 1860, the punishment ranges from two years to life imprisonment and may also include fines. Additionally, the Zina provisions of the Hudood Ordinance (1979) criminalize all sexual conduct outside of marriage with the death penalty, though there are few known cases of these provisions being used against gay people. The enforcement of sentences against homosexuals has been largely enforced using vulgarity act, loud speaker or other anti state laws.
Are same-sex marriages recognized in Pakistan?
No, same-sex marriages are not recognized in Pakistan. While there are technically no laws directly prohibiting cohabitation or marriage of same-sex couples, individuals can face penalties under penal law if convicted of sodomy. In the past same sex couples have been imprisoned.
Is there censorship of LGBTQIA+ issues in Pakistan?
Yes, censorship of LGBTQIA+ issues exists and can result in imprisonment as punishment. Section 34 of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (2016) empowers the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority to remove or block content deemed necessary for the “glory of Islam, public order, decency, or morality.” Punishment for spreading or accessing such content can be three or more months in jail. Many websites and content related LGBTQI+ community have been blocked in Pakistan and many people have been arrested in past for being gay and lesbian.

No, Discrimination against LGBTQIA+ individuals is not illegal. We see many law makers, anchors, media, state actors and religious groups openly discriminating gays and lesbian community members based on their gender identity or sexual orientation without any hurdles.

No, In terms of employment, discrimination is not prohibited based on gay, lesbian and all LGBTQIA+ identities. That is why many gays and lesbian people are unable to find jobs or forced to leave job because of discrmination.

No, Similar to employment, housing discrimination is not prohibited based on gay, lesbian and all LGBTQIA+ identities. That is why many gays and lesbian people are unable to find safe accomodation or forced to hide their identity to ensure sustainable accomodation.

No, conversion therapy is currently not banned in Pakistan. We have seen many people using religious practices, psychological clinics advertising treatment of homosexuality. Also forced marriages of gays and lesbians are being used as method to convert their identity.
