It’s been a while, but we’re thrilled to announce an upcoming event that’s all about connecting and celebrating our community. The Pakistan LGBTQ+ Zone and Pride Pakistan are teaming up to host a virtual gathering this weekend, and we’d love for you to be a part of it.
We know how busy life can get, and it’s more important than ever to create spaces where we can feel connected, supported, and seen. This event, our 11th Virtual Queer Meeting, is the perfect opportunity to catch up with old friends, meet new people, and share some meaningful conversation in a safe and welcoming online environment.
How to Join Us
We’ve made it easy for you to participate! We’re offering multiple time slots over two days to make sure as many people as possible can join.
The gathering will take place on either Saturday, August 16, 2025, or Sunday, August 17, 2025. The exact date and time will be chosen based on the availability of our community members, so your input is key!

جعلی امیگریشن سروسز کے خطرات
یہ دھوکے باز ایک خاص، ظالمانہ طریقہ کار کے ساتھ کام کرتے ہیں۔ وہ کمزور ہم جنس افراد کو نشانہ بناتے ہیں، اکثر سوشل میڈیا یا زبانی طور پر، انہیں ایک “محفوظ ملک” کا آسان راستہ دکھاتے ہیں۔

In your search for safety, we are heartbroken to learn that many of you are falling victim to a new, insidious form of persecution: fraudulent immigration consultants and blackmailers. These individuals and services exploit your vulnerability, promising a humanitarian or protection visa that they can never deliver.

The Dangers of Fake Immigration Services
These fraudsters operate with a specific, cruel methodology. They target vulnerable LGBTQI individuals, often through social media or word-of-mouth, promising an easy path to a “safe country.”
Here’s how the scam works:
They ask for “Proof of Identity”: The first step is often a request for sensitive personal information, including photos that prove your queer identity. They claim this is necessary to build a strong case for your visa application.
They demand money upfront: They will ask for money for a visa application, processing fees, and even flight tickets, claiming urgency.
They turn to blackmail: Once they have your personal details, including photos and family information, they use this information to blackmail you for more money.
They make threats and demands: When you cannot pay, they threaten to expose you to your family, your community, or your employer. We have been told of cases where these scammers have even approached the victim’s family directly, revealing their identity. In the most horrific cases, they have made sexual demands on their victims.
This is a vicious cycle of extortion that preys on your desperation. These criminals have no power to issue visas, and they have no interest in your safety. Their only goal is to extract as much money as possible while causing immense psychological and emotional damage.
We are also aware of the dangers of illegal border crossings promoted by these criminal networks. Individuals who have tried to escape persecution this way have found themselves in even more precarious situations—trapped in transit countries like Türkiye, facing prison, arrest, and unlivable conditions where they are still at risk of violence and have no legal protection.
How to Protect Yourself: Spotting and Avoiding Scams
It is crucial to understand that only official government embassies and immigration departments have the authority to issue visas. No third-party consultant, no matter what they claim, can guarantee a visa or grant you special access.
Red Flags to Watch For:
Unofficial Contact Information: Be highly suspicious of any service that uses a personal email address (like Gmail or Yahoo) or a generic social media page. Official communication from embassies and government departments will always come from official domain emails (e.g., ... @gc.ca for Canada, ... @state.gov for the U.S.).
Guaranteed Results: No legitimate visa process can guarantee approval. If a consultant promises a “sure” or “fast-track” visa, it is a scam. The visa process is complex and depends on many factors, including the discretion of the immigration officer.
Requests for Inappropriate Information: A legitimate visa application will not ask for revealing photos as “proof” of your identity. They will rely on official documents and your personal statement, not private, sensitive content.
Upfront Payments for Vague Services: Legitimate visa fees are paid directly to the government department, not to a consultant. Be wary of requests for large sums of money for “processing,” “flights,” or “legal fees” without a formal, verifiable contract.
Finding a Safe and Official Path
The only safe and effective way to seek asylum or immigration is through official, government-run processes. While we do not have direct links with embassies, we can guide you to the official resources you need.

The reality in Pakistan is that explicit legal protections against discrimination based on sexual orientation are largely absent. While the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2018, offers some safeguards for trans and intersex individuals, general anti-discrimination laws for the broader LGBTQI community are not yet established. The IE SOGI is the only position within the entire UN system solely dedicated to addressing the human rights of LGBTQIA+ and gender-diverse people worldwide. Since its creation in 2016, this Independent Expert has been an absolutely vital voice for our communities – diligently documenting human rights violations, offering support to victims and survivors, engaging directly with governments, and providing crucial advice on international law and inclusive public policy.
The importance of this renewal is underscored by the current global climate. As highlighted in the current Independent Expert’s 2024 report, LGBTQIA+ people around the world are facing intensifying waves of violence, disinformation, and political scapegoating. These threats are often fueled by well-coordinated anti-rights movements, making the continuation of this mandate crucial for sustaining international pressure, visibility, and accountability when our communities most urgently need protection.
This incredible achievement was not a given; it was the result of an extraordinary, tireless campaign led by civil society. An astounding 1,259 non-governmental organizations from 157 countries and territories, including Pride Pakistan, stood united in defense of LGBTQIA+ rights. کراچی، 3 جولائی 2025 – آج، ہمارے دل ناقابلِ بیان غم اور شدید غصے سے بوجھل ہیں۔ ہمیں یہ افسوسناک خبر ملی ہے کہ کراچی میں ایک نوجوان ہم جنس پرست شخص کو مبینہ طور پر اس کے اپنے والد نے بے دردی سے قتل کر دیا ہے۔ یہ خوفناک فعل پاکستان میں LGBTQ+ افراد کو درپیش خطرناک حقیقت کی ایک دل دہلا دینے والی، واضح یاد دہانی ہے، جہاں ایک کوئیر شخص کے طور پر موجود ہونا ہی موت کی سزا بن سکتا ہے۔

Karachi, July 3, 2025 – Today, our hearts are heavy with unspeakable grief and profound outrage. News has reached us of the brutal killing of a young gay man in Karachi, allegedly at the hands of his own father. This horrific act serves as a chilling, stark reminder of the perilous reality faced by LGBTQ+ individuals in Pakistan, where the very act of existing as a queer person can be a death sentence.
We are further distressed to learn that, as of this moment, no First Information Report (FIR) has even been registered by the family or the police. This shocking lack of official action speaks volumes about the systemic apathy and deep-seated prejudice that allows such atrocities to go unpunished and, often, undocumented.
This is not an isolated incident. The story of this young man, whose life was so cruelly cut short, is a tragedy that echoes in countless untold stories across Pakistan. How many more queer individuals suffer violence, harassment, and even death, their cases never reaching the public eye, never making it into official records? How many families, driven by misplaced notions of “honor” and societal pressure, silence their own, erasing their existence from every register?
In Pakistan, homosexuality remains criminalized under laws inherited from the colonial era, with penalties ranging from fines to life imprisonment. While convictions under these laws are rare, they provide a legal basis for societal discrimination, extortion, and violence. Sharia law, though rarely enforced with the death penalty due to high proof requirements, casts a long shadow of fear.
Beyond the legal framework, a pervasive culture of homophobia, fueled by conservative religious and societal norms, creates an environment where violence against LGBTQ+ individuals is not only tolerated but often justified. “Honor” killings, forced heterosexual marriages, corrective rapes, and severe societal ostracization are grim realities. Many queer individuals are forced to live in constant fear, hiding their identities even from their closest relatives, their lives a perpetual tightrope walk between self-preservation and the yearning for authenticity.
The failure of law enforcement to register FIRs in cases like this – or to even acknowledge the true nature of these crimes – is a devastating blow to justice. It not only denies victims and their families the right to legal recourse but also perpetuates a cycle of impunity that further emboldens perpetrators. Without official recognition, the true scale of the violence against LGBTQ+ people in Pakistan remains hidden, making it even harder for human rights organizations to advocate for change and provide support to those in need.
PridePakistan.org condemns this heinous act in the strongest possible terms. We mourn the loss of this young life and stand in solidarity with all LGBTQ+ individuals in Pakistan who live under the shadow of fear and violence. We call upon the authorities to immediately register an FIR in this case and ensure a thorough and transparent investigation, bringing the perpetrator(s) to justice. We urge civil society, media, and international human rights bodies to shine a light on these silent tragedies and demand accountability.
The time for silence is over. We must speak out, amplify the voices of the unheard, and continue to fight for a Pakistan where every individual, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, can live with dignity, safety, and freedom. Our collective conscience demands nothing less.

However, Ali emphasized that resistance extends beyond merely fighting oppression. “Our resistance,” he stated, “is not just about fighting back against oppression. It’s also about embracing and celebrating who we are.”
Defining queer joy from his perspective and within the Pakistani context, Ali described it as “that spark in our eyes when we find someone who understands our journey without a word; the hamsafar, who see us, celebrate us, and stand by us, no matter what; a shared laugh over a coded joke.” He highlighted that in Pakistan, “where public expression can be frightening, queer joy is often found in these intimate, resilient safe spaces, online, in trusted circles, and deep within ourselves.”
Central to his message was the powerful assertion: “When they want us to live in fear and shame, our laughter is a rebellion.”
Ali Raza Khan then outlined how the community can continue to use this joy as a form of resistance:
By Living Authentically: Encouraging individuals to live true to themselves, as each act of authenticity chips away at fear.
By Building and Nurturing Communities: Stressing the importance of these spaces, online or offline, as lifelines for strength and belonging.
By Celebrating Each Other Loudly: Highlighting how celebrating individual happiness and achievements strengthens the collective spirit.
By Extending That Joy Outwards: Explaining that joy can be infectious, capable of educating, challenging misconceptions, and building crucial bridges.
Concluding his message, Ali underscored the vital role of joy in the Pakistani context. “In Pakistan, where the fight for rights is ongoing and often uphill, our joy is our fuel and armour,” he affirmed. “It reminds us what we are fighting for: a future where every young LGBTIQ+ Pakistani can live freely, safely, and joyfully.”
